SparcStation 4 and Debian

After much work and frustration I have a fully installed and working Debian install on my Sun SparcStation4. It is running the stable release of Debian as a upgrade to Testing seems to create a huge dependancy problem for me. I may play with doing this latter as I am running a 2.2 kernel on it right now (first time for that). The only problem I am having that really is getting to me right now on it is auto booting and mounting. Silo (like lilo but for sparcs) seems to not find the image so I have to tell it to “1/vmlinuz root=/dev/sda1″. Took me a little to figure that out, pretty much just says 1st partition / image called vmlinuz and use the root device on scsi device 1 partition 1. Atleast that is how I understood it and it works. :) I was not to sure if the floppy drive on it was dead or not, as it had not worked right for me. This turned out to be a problem with 2 of the 3 floppy disks I actually still have. The Cdrom worked fine. All in all for the age of this system I am pretty happy with it. I stil have a few drives around with Solaris on them so I might have to check that out some more. The display make a very sweet looking text console, but I am sure at some point I will want *box or something on it.
