DVD Burner for the Thinkpad

Posted in Computers on January 30th, 2006 by hurt – Be the first to comment

Well I ended up finding a alright deal for the DVD-RW that would fit my Thinkpad R51. Ended up getting it today and it seems to be working pretty good for me. There are some issues to work out but nothing to do with the drive itself and it is making some nice backups of things for me right now. Even though it cant do +R, I think I will like it better than a big old external IDE drive in a usb cage. Plus I always have the option to put my old DVD+/-RW in one of the headless systems if I really feel the need for that.

Just found this while killing some time

Found a interesting Vote on the Lenovo site for the new model Thinkpad.

You can check it out here (Which Side Are You On?)

Ended up stickinbg with fluxbox for now, and sorted out that issue with the fonts on some pages. Add this to the ~/.fluxbox/startup file;

/usr/lib/control-center/gnome-settings-daemon &

Not really sure what is going on but it fixes the fonts and some table layouts in firefox.

Didn’t really due to much this weekend other that some stuff around the home that I wanted to get done. The bathroom door was having some issues staying closes since the temp changes, so I had to do a little sanding on the top of it and line up the door latch (which required me to do a little chisel work. The door now works better than it ever did since I have been here, so that is a job well done.

I also found out that Linus (the cat) is not a very big fan of Buckethead but seems to like Bob Marley the most out of anything I play (or atleast ignores it better than anything else).

The Dream mpd Client

I just found a Music Player Daemon Client that is a dream come true. It dosnt have fancy cover art or a nice gui to add and remove music, but it runs in the console and has auto complete. I really love this thing because of the auto complete. I think anyone using mpd should check out ncmpc.

A little change to spice up the desktop

Was playing around today with fluxbox as I wanted to see what was new in the whole *box world of window managers. It is still nice, clean, and quick still. I dont think I will be able to keep use it as some odd things like this edit page I am using to make the post does not format right in the same broswer. I am guessing it is something to do with the fonts, but have not really looked into it enough to see if there is a quick fix.
