Compaq Deskpro Boot Up No Keyboard
The dumb thing about more older Compaq Deskpros is that they have no option in the BIOS to disable keyboard check on boot up. I was able to find a fix for this by doing some real hunting on google.
1. Run BIOS setup by pressing F10
2. Goto ‘Security’ and ‘Set Power On Password’
3. Type in a password and F10 to accept the change
4. As soon as password is set, ‘Password Options’ will appear under ‘Security’ tab
5. Enable ‘Network Server’ mode in there
6. F10 to save changes and exit
Now the funny thing is this actually works. I guess if you put a password on it and it cant find a keyboard it knows it cant ask you to enter it. This also means that if you have a Compaq that has a bootup password enabled and you want access to it, just unplug the keyboard… :)

Hey, that’s awesome! A number of times before I’ve used systems that won’t let you boot without a keyboard. I think some old IBM’s and/or clones have done that to me. Neat to know about getting aroud the BIOS password, too. I thought the only way to do that would be to reset the BIOS. Cool!
Yah because the BIOS looks to be a very compaq based BIOS I dont think it would work for much else, but it would be interesting to see the next time this issue comes up.
Great! Worked for me, as described. One of the most useful things I’ve found on the Internet for ages. Thanks for the post.
