Algae Troubles and Clean Up

Posted in Aquarium on May 28th, 2006 by hurt – Be the first to comment

I have been getting something that seems to look to me like White Hair Algae. Very little on google has turned up anything to get rid of this or what it could be from (also have a fair amount of nice dark green algae). So off to the fish store to try and find something. I was going to get more Otocinclus since the one I had could not seem to keep up with the work in the ~30gal tank. The fish shop only had one that was not looking so well, so I started to think maybe a baby Pleco for the time being. After a little thought I went for more Amano Shrimp. I use to have a few but all but the one did the march of death out of the tank. Since then I have filled in the top more and there is very little chance of escape for them. Being more than Ghost Shrimp at a cost of about $3.50 each i decided to get 4 to add to my one. Shorlty after adding them they went right to work. The interesting thing is the one I had from before that never seemed to come out from under his log was out with them cleaning. The Mollie that didnt seem to do a damn thing started to eat everything it could. The whole tank was full of activity once again cleaning and eatting up nasty stuff. My best guess is that everyone just felt there is so much I dont need to rush, or something along those lines and with the new Amano Shrimp everyone is in a panic to get all they can?

mini-itx.com posted a link to a very cool looking case mod. The mod is actually a alloy rim and rather than explaining it you should just check it out over at bit-tech.net.

Gonna Need a bigger card

Well I am still loving the dual head display setup, but I have noticed a little taxing of the video card when I use a nice full high res background across the whole thing. It is prob a matter of my old PNY Geforce FX5200 128M PCI card not having enough jam for the two displays at 1280×1024 with all the trans eterms and stuff going on. In any case it is still very usable and I dont notice any issues when I play Quake III since it is just running on the one head. But on the list of things to get is going to be a video card, and it also seems a new 80gig IDE drive for the raid in my workstation (might just wait and get two 80gig sata down the road).

Mmm larger work space.

Atari 2600 Review: Galaxian

Posted in Reviews, Video Games on May 21st, 2006 by hurt – 6 Comments

Galaxian Atari 2600 Cover Galaxian is one of the top 5 most played games for the Atari 2600 in my collection. The idea of the game is simple “destroy the Galaxian fleet before they blast your laser base to stardust.”. For a Atari 2600 game the controls are smooth feeling. Graphics (remeber its the early 80′s) are well done for there time, and sound above avg..

It is one of the games for the 2600 that have just the right amount of everything. They didnt try to make it more than it should have been and just stuck to a great now simple game play. I dont remeber hearing about it being any great game back in its day, but remeber a lot of people having it, which is prob. the same thing. In any case it has stood the test of time in my game play and is something I always have to play when in a session of 2600.
