Death Bed for me and Debian

Posted in Computers on February 10th, 2007 by hurt – Be the first to comment

After coming back from the hospital yesterday I started to get a cough that felt like a chest cold or something along those lines. Here I am at 6:00 in the morning still battling this thing. To top it off I just found out that Debian is dead. :)

Read the dumbest article I have seen in a long time, Is Debian dead? Posted by Dana Blankenhorn.

Debian might not be as popular on the desktop, but its purpose in life is a little diff than Ubuntu. Also with the exception of one person everyone I know that runs Ubuntu spends most there time in windows still. Sure a ton of people might be able to install Ubuntu but are they actually using it as there main OS. On the other hand everyone I know with a Debian box uses it day in and day out.

An Open Question To Cat People

Posted in Music on February 7th, 2007 by hurt – 4 Comments

Why do cats put there ears back when they use a scratching post?

My thoughts:

1. They are worried of on coming danger from behind.

2. They are scared of catching them in the scratch session.

3. It is just instinct, with a combination of item 1 and they don’t even know they are doing it.

EBGames Online Support

I have been a subscriber to the rss feeds for EBGames New Arrivals and Upcoming Releases for a while now. The issue with these feeds is that they only have a title for the game and repeat this in the content of the rss (They don’t state the platform or anything other than the name of the game). Not being interested in all consoles and all releases this is a great issue for me. I finally broke down and emailed support. With in a day an actually person replied and said the following;

Thank you very much for your comments. We’ve had some resource issues preventing us from keeping descriptions in the feeds, but this should be resolved by the end of the month.

Regarding platforms, that has not been a part of our feed in the past but due to your comment we are looking into it. Absolutely makes sense and if we can accommodate, we will.

Thanks for the note!

Here is to hoping email can change the world (Will keep you posted if any feeds change). :)

3D Effects in the Gimp

Posted in Computers on February 4th, 2007 by hurt – Be the first to comment

Most people who are thinking of moving to Linux only on the desktop run into two issues right off, lack of games and photoshop. Well Andrew546 has created a nice little tutorial on instructables for doing some pretty neat 3d stuff in the gimp. While I am on the topic the instructables site is one of those place I always forget about, but man there is some cool stuff on it.

Death of JK462B

Posted in General on February 4th, 2007 by hurt – 4 Comments

I don’t think I ever mentioned the fact that I got a cordless kettle for Christmas, or anything I got for that matter. Anyway.. The sad news is that my Superior Cordless Black Kettle model #JK462B (To me his name was just JK462B) went to silicon heaven after just over a month of service. The good news was that my mom still had the receipt hidden away at here place. The second good thing is that it came from Walmart. No box, no problem, no bag, no problem, Walmart will take anything back! Plus you can take anything from any Walmart store to any other Walmart store. So I tossed the broken kettle (JK462B) in my A&P plastic bag, drove out to my moms to find the receipt, then off to Walmart to exchange it for a replacement. I actually liked the kettle so I figure I would give the same kinda another chance and hope that one was just a dud.

Tips on exchanging things at Walmart:

  1. Don’t shave for a few days before going to Walmart (it helps if you have been sick for a few days before also).
  2. Put your item in a plastic bag that didn’t come from Walmart.
  3. Act really disappointed in the fact your item broke / didn’t work / is missing something / etc.
  4. When they tell you to go get a replacement item, make them tell you exactly where it is going to be located.
  5. The customer is always right.
