An Open Question To Cat People

Why do cats put there ears back when they use a scratching post?

My thoughts:

1. They are worried of on coming danger from behind.

2. They are scared of catching them in the scratch session.

3. It is just instinct, with a combination of item 1 and they don’t even know they are doing it.

Ya I would bet its some long left over instinct from when they actually used to be real animals :) Now they are just crazy pets…

Yeah it’s a protective instinct, just like when sharks attack their eyes roll back in their head to protect them. It gives the animal being attacked less to grab onto and bite. Otherwise the ears would be easy targets.

Maybe it’s the equivalent to us bunching our eyebrows together when we’re doing something hard. Just a reaction, nothing more.
