Blog Spam

Posted in General on March 31st, 2009 by hurt – 2 Comments

I use to use Spam Karma on the blog back in the day, but have stopped using any real spam filter on comments since it was not supported. WordPress has a pretty decent black list system you can use and I always tend to keep comment posting to only if pre approved.

So anyone else out there using anything neat to stop the comment spam of there blog?

Saturday Village Pillage

“Village Pillage” or as most call it a trip to the local Value Village. It was not a great day for finding anything overly exciting, but I did pick up a wok and a cook book. The book is Ceil Dyers Wok Cookery, and seems to have a fair amount of meat free things to make in a wok. I guess the idea of making a whole meal in a single pan has always appealed to me, don’t know how well it will work out but for the 5$ the wok cost it is not a major loss if I don’t stick with it.

So the Village Pillage was no where near as great as the last one where I found a Original Plastic Gizmo from 1984 (He stands 6.5″ tall).

He has become a great addition to my computer desk at home. :)

More Reno Work To Come

Posted in General on March 27th, 2009 by hurt – Be the first to comment

So I have gotten a few quotes on the basement reno project. Oddly homedepot has come in with the best quote and is willing to do all the work. The local Rona does not do electrical at all, and said they could do the work but I would have to get a electrician and schedule there time in. I really don’t want to play contractor scheduler, so the company that came in only a little more and will do it all in one are most likely going to get the work.

On another reno project Erika asked someone at her work who’s husband has a tree cutting business how much it would be to get one of the trees in the front yard I have wanted down for a while cut below the lawn. They actually gave a very good price on it, so we will prob get that done soon.

Site changes, new theme, 2nd update in a day

Posted in Computers, Video Games on March 26th, 2009 by hurt – 4 Comments

Ended up doing some work on sociallysour.org tonight and upgraded to the latest version of wordpress finally. You might also notice the fancy new theme I installed. Its called Carrington. I pretty much just used the stock theme and changed some font colors in the css, added some google ads, and presto. Its pretty different than the hack on the old hacked up Kubrick theme I had been using for years now. Hopefully the new theme will get me back into working on the site as it was growing pretty stale around here the past year or so.

In the video game news I have given Rockband2 a break and picked up a copy of the new Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 for PS3. I have not really been playing any RTS games since StarCraft, so it seems pretty fast to me right now. In the campaign mode I seem to be doing ok, but playing against the AI in a one on one game… yah, I don’t seem to last very long and run out of funds and just have to watch my base be bombed and blown to crap.

PTunes 5.0 – Now With 100% More Scrobbling

Posted in Computers, Music on March 26th, 2009 by hurt – Be the first to comment

pockettunesradio48x48My Palm Treo 755p came with version 4.something pre installed on it for playing music. The Pocket Tunes player has served me well for all my music playing needs on the phone and I didn’t really see me upgrading to a later version. Version 5.0 was released a little while back and added support for last.fm scrobbling.

I have been scrobbling the music I play on my laptop now since May 2005. This was the killer feature to suck me into buying the upgrade for $19.99. Other than scrobbling it also now has better album cover support and seems to always pull the right art when I am playing something.

It sends the data in real time as it is playing, so be aware this is going to cut into your data plan.
