Back To the Norm

January 16th, 2008 8:51 pm

I really haven’t been keeping up with my blog posting at all. This can be related to lots of changes in my life the past 4 months and also laziness. I wont go into details since most of my readers are of the silent type and random hits from google. The others that do tend to be repeat visitors for the most part already know most of the changes.

I actually do have lots of reviews and news the catch up on with the blog but have not really gotten around to writing any of it down.

The biggest change right now is the move out of my apartment to a home owner. Its odd to not have to pay rent but I can’t say it really feels that much different other than a drastic change in the amount of space. It has been keeping me busy the past little while as I have just finished my first major renovation project, the bathroom. I didn’t take any before pictures, but it was a little to late 70’s early 80’s typical bathroom.

I am pretty happy with how it turned out and did the work myself with help from my brother in law.

It was actually and pretty big job from start to finish, ended up riping out and replacing everything in the bathroom with the exception of the vanity. The vanity was in alright shape and fit the space, so we just painted it, installed a new counter top, sink, faucet, and replaced the knobs.

And yes I still need to get a small blind for the window. :)

Mount via sshfs in Debian

December 10th, 2007 11:48 am

Host Machine

On your host machine install “fuse-utils libfuse2 sshfs”.

apt-get install fuse-utils libfuse2 sshfs

Next you have to load the module fuse on your host machine

modprobe "fuse"

Client Machine

On your Client machine install “sshfs”.

apt-get install sshfs

Connecting the Mount

sshfs uses almost the same syntax of scp with the exception of the port switch being the same as ssh and not scp (if you are running ssh on the standard port you will not need to worry about this).

The command to make the connection is simply listed below

sshfs username@hostname:/path/to_mount /mnt/your_mount_path

When you are done you can unmount the share

fusermount -u /path/to_mount

NOTE One thing I have noticed in gnome and to keep in mind that if you are mounting a mount with sshfs is that it will not show up in nautilus.

Video Game Round Up

August 20th, 2007 9:04 pm

Been a while since I posted on the site, so I thought I would do a little round up of some interesting video game news and personal video game news.

To start I ended up picking up a Sega Saturn with a huge stack of games off someone at work a little while back. Although about half the games are less than great titles some of the games that where keeping me playing the past while are: Earth Worm Jim 2, Vitrua Fighter 2, Wipe Out, and Ultimate Doom. With the stack of Sega Saturn games I scored a copy of Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete. Its the collectors edition and comes with a bunch of swag that I guess your suppose to be excited about. Most of the stuff in the kit is pretty much just extra meaningless stuff.. It did come with a sound track disc which is nice since RPG’s norm have some great ambient music.

In the rest of the video game world there are some nice games coming out in the future.

Worm Open Warfare 2 has some great potential to be a casual game that will eat up a huge amount of time. The best thing about this is that its going to be “infrastructure-enabled”.

Sega Rally Revo could finally be the rally game I have been waiting for. Lets not get into how pissed I am about Dirt not being avail on any console or hand held I currently have.

And Lastly, just when I didn’t think I could fall any more behind in never ending series of Socom games.. SOCOM: Tactical Strike from the reviews is shaping up to be the best Socom yet. I really need to get in gear and finish off a few more in the series before the release of this one.

Tomb Raider Anniversary PSP

August 15th, 2007 7:17 pm

I just watched a great video of Tomb Raider Anniversary on the PSPFanboy site. I had been waiting a while for it to come out and sadly have still not picked it up. I was leaning toward getting the PS2 version of the game since it came out before, but have been getting more use out of the hand held systems the past while that my consoles. Anyway if you like the original Tomb Raider you should check out the clip I linked to above and see what a great port of the original game this is. The only down side to this game that I have heard is the camera angles are a little less than perfect, but are much better than most in this type of game. The graphics actually look pretty nice and very well done for a psp title.

Gimme danger, little stranger

July 29th, 2007 1:25 pm

I didn’t end up getting out of bed this morning very early so the day is just starting off for me here. About all I have been able to get done this morning is the creation and completion of a pot of coffee.

I don’t think I mention the new phones that I picked up a little while back. I was looking for something small, cordless, stylish, and had a answering machine built into it. What I ended up finding was the Phillips DECT 225. Its actually turned out to be a nice set of phones. One thing I would like to see added to a system with the base station is a central address book. Each hand set can have an address book, but they are stored on the handsets. I really would like it to saved on the base station and be avail to any registered handset attached to that base station.

It has some pretty kick ass built in ring tones and I have been using the one that sounds a lot like the original Ninja Gaiden music from the NES.
